Stacy D. Stein
Attorney and Counselor at Law
Hopkins • Tschetter • Sulzer
A native of California but a Coloradoan by choice, Stacy was born and raised in Santa Maria, California. She is an honors graduate of Cal Poly where she majored in political science. While attending college Stacy interned in the Congressional Office of a California congresswoman where she was responsible for constituent casework. Subsequently, she went to work for a State Assemblyman coordinating constituent communications and casework as well as having the responsibility of organizing and scheduling events.
The Steins moved to Colorado in 1997 and Stacy graduated with honors from the Denver Paralegal Institute ABA approved paralegal certificate program in 2002. During the period she was attending paralegal school she was employed by an established collection law firm as their Managing Paralegal. Where she managed thousands of debtor case files, drafted pleadings and motions for district and county court cases as well as communicating with client representatives, opposing counsel, and garnishees regarding case details, payments and settlement options. After completing her paralegal training Stacy became the Managing Paralegal for a newly established legal collection firm where she continued to perform many of the same professional responsibilities as well as managing a three person legal staff, hiring and training support staff, and maintaining and reconciling client funds in an attorney trust account. While at this firm she implemented a conversion to industry specific software and transformed it into a paperless office.
Stacy made a decision to enter law school in 2006 and enrolled at the University of Denver College of Law. She also elected to make a change in employment at this time and went to work as a Paralegal/Legal Manager for an established law firm where she rewrote all motion forms to ensure compliance with Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure, managed the trial calendar for three attorneys, coordinated client witness participation at trial, prepared cases for trial, pretrial conference and hearings and drafted and filed motions. Stacy was also assigned to troubleshoot problem departments within the firm, as well as problem cases. In addition to working full-time during law school she did an internship in the fall of 2008 with the Honorable A. Bruce Campbell, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, 10th Circuit where she completed research, drafted opinions, and attended hearings and trials; an internship at Ambler & Keenan in the spring of 2008 drafting estate planning documents, pleadings in probate cases and conservatorships; and an internship at Hopkins Tschetter Sulzer, P.C. in fall of 2007 responding to “situation” calls, performing research and drafting memoranda, and drafting responses to requests for information and a position statement for CCRD administrative complaint. Stacy received her J.D. from the University of Denver Law School in May 2009 and was admitted to the Colorado Bar in October 2009.
Although Stacy will be the lead attorney in our newly launched collection department, her diverse background and experience make her addition to the HTS team a significant asset as she is well suited to practice much more than collection law. Stacy is married to her high school sweetheart who is an interventional vascular radiologic technologist at Swedish Hospital. The Steins have two children, a daughter 12 and a son 10. Both Stacy and her husband are Scout Leaders and enjoy doing family activities like travel and just recently returned from a trip to Italy. They consider themselves to be serious movie buffs.
